Can I use a regular heavy duty panasonic battery instead of an alcaline one?

I just bought a digital kitchen scale and it doesn’t work with a regular battery. So I just wanted to know if it is the battery or the scale. Thanks for your input!

The voltages of same size batteries are the same. Using a AA of one brand is the same voltage using a AA of another brand. It’s not the batteries that are the problem
